Nasution
was born in Hutapungkut Village, North Sumatera from a Batak Muslim family.
He
was the second child in the family the eldest son in the family. His father was
a textile, rubber, and coffee and was a member of Islam Union Organization.
In
1935, Nasution moved to bandung to continue his study. He lived there for 3
years. Nasution then joined the the officer corps to fight the german Nazi. It
is the only way that he could gain millitary training. He was sent to Bandung
Millitary Academy to join the training with other fellow Indonesians.
Then happened the Bandung Sea of
fire event. This happened longs after he applied for the army.
General
Nasution came up with the idea of scorching down bandung in order to foil the
British plan to invade Bandung. Nasution who was the First Division Commander
of Siliwangi refused the request of the British for the citizens of Bandung to
leave their land.
Finally,
Nasution ordered for all officers and citizens to leave the town before
midnight. Then, the army was ordered to scorch Bandung. Therefore, the British
could not invade Bandung and use it for their weaponry storage.
Scorching
earth was then reused to face the Dutch Agression in 1948.
